Uncommon SUUmmer Experience: Thursday
| Thursday’s theme was “Make
a Difference.” We actually started the morning by using colored
sand and glue to decorate our plaster of paris handprints. The littler
kids did this while the older ones helped to make cupcakes for the
UCM dinner that evening. After cupcakes were in the oven, we then
learned a Buddhist chant and dance called “Kwan Zeon Bosai.”
(These were the leftover activities from the previous day!) Cupcake
baking commenced through the entire morning thanks to the generous
help of Barb Harrison and her visiting sister, Beth. The most interesting
discussions of the week though, happened when everyone took part in
a simulation of how the world’s food resources were distributed.
We learned that people from North America have the vast majority of
the food, while people in Africa and Asia have very little. It was
an illuminating discussion and it covered a wide range of topics.
After snack time, we spent the rest of the morning decorating the
cupcakes. All in all, we had at least 60 or more cupcakes. That’s
a whole lot of decorating. |
