Uncommon SUUmmer Experience: Tuesday

Tuesday’s theme was “Cat Day.” We started the morning by making cat toys to take to the Athens County Humane Society’s Cat Shelter. Vivian Dunbar knitted all of the yarn bags that we stuffed with catnip and batting. After all of the cat toys were made, we then piled into cars and headed to the shelter. There the kids got a tour of the facilities, played with many cats and kittens, and learned about why it is important to get our pets fixed and the problems of overpopulation. After coming back from our field trip, Chelsea Clark showed up to do a bit of face painting – to help us transform into cats! Ears and tails finished the process and we learned that herding cats can indeed be difficult. The kids then did cat movement and sang a fun responsive song about cats.
